Ithaca Celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Singlebrook will be making a donation to Ithaca’s Multicultural Resource Center.
The Multicultural Resource Center conducts Talking Circles on Race and Racism. Last year, the MRC Talking Circles on Race and Racism was recognized by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation with a three-year grant of $225,000, according to an article by Ann Marie Cummings in Tompkins Weekly (9/17-23/12). Read the article here to learn more about MRC Talking Circles.
Several other Ithaca organizations foster multicultural connections in our community:
Greater Ithaca Activities Center (GIAC) “is a center for all ages, particularly youth and teens. It serves the immediate neighborhood and the greater Ithaca area by providing multicultural, educational and recreational programs focused on social and individual development.” GIAC hosts an Annual Free Community Luncheon Celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Southside Community Center’s mission is to "affirm, empower and foster the development of self pride among the African-American citizens of greater Ithaca. Through open forums and activities in education, recreation, political and social awareness, the Southside Community Center is a community resource center that serves as a vehicle to develop an appreciation for the contributions and presence of those peoples of African descent. Center services and programs are open to individuals of all ages, faiths, and ethnicities."
Other organizations include the Center for Transformative Action, Cornell Public Service Center, Campus Life at Cornell University, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County, and Ithaca College Office of Student Engagement & Multicultural Affairs.
