Impact Investing Tips from SVN Spring Conference

There was a great session at the Social Venture Network spring conference about impact investing. During the session, we developed an informal list of some practical resources/ideas for people who are interested in moving their money away from traditional investments and into more socially and environmentally conscious impact investments. Here’s a summary of some of the ideas that came up during that session:
  • Move cash to local banks
  • Invest in community loan funds (The Vermont Community Loan Fund is an example)
  • Sell your index fund
  • Learn more about the Slow Money movement (Several local community investment vehicles are in the works)
  • In addition to local banks and credit unions, check out Shore Bank and New Resource Bank
  • Switch to a more socially conscious retirement plan by checking out companies such as Social K and Green Retirement Plans
  • Ideas about places to invest: Calvert Funds, RSF Social Finance, Domini funds, Trillium’s Green Century Balanced, Hip 100
