TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y. -- Small business owners in Tompkins County sat down with Congressman Maurice Hinchey to talk about growing the high-tech industry in the area.
Twenty-six Ithaca area businesses were represented at the meeting, ranging from developers of solar-energy batteries to a company that is designing a projector that can fit in a cell phone.
The congressman listened to the needs of the business owners and discussed federal funding and tax credits available that can help spur growth in the field.
"We've been able to get in a substantial amount of federal money to stimulate this technology, to stimulate this kind of growth, to stimulate the ingenuity that we're seeing," said Hinchey. "And all of these things are critically important. And we're going to be doing more and more of this over the next few years."
Hinchey said this will help generate new technology and job growth.
