Labor Arts

"The design, the functionality within the site, and the editing features in the admin panel are all terrific!"

RACHEL BERNSTEIN, LABOR ARTS

Labor Arts is a joint project of The Shelley and Donald Rubin Foundation and The Robert F. Wagner Labor Archives/ Tamiment Library at New York University. Their focus is to present powerful and historically relevant artwork to encourage appreciation of the past and present contributions that working people have made to society.

Our primary goal was to design and develop a beautiful new site that better showcases the thousands of images and contributions from over a century of labor art. We remained faithful to the original palette created specifically for Labor Arts by none other than Milton Glaser while adding our own unique visual contributions to the historic organization. Through a collaborative process with the project team we designed a unique new home page and updated interior page designs to create a unified look with added functionality.

The next initiative was to develop and integrate an efficient method for Labor Arts to manage specific content. Since some of the site information (and technology) was over five years old, we used jQuery in conjunction with the existing ColdFusion configuration to create a more robust administrative system.
