Elves Program

Singlebrook participated in the Elves Program this holiday season. It was coordinated by some folks at Cornell. The "Elves" job this year was to go out and purchase new toys, gifts and warm clothing for some children in need at Nichols elementary. We were happy to have this opportunity to make an impact in our community. Here's the thank you note from the school:

Dear Christa Downey and Elves,
Thank you once again this year for your helping hand to make Christmas a little happier for families in Nichols Elementary.
Let me tell you about the families that you helped this year.
Family number one is a single dad family and one son that moved here from Long Island to get away from the city. They have no family in the is area and have no involvement with the child's mother. Dad never asks me for help and when I ask him if he needs help he always says "No I'll make it somehow." So I just go ahead and put his name in. I called him today to have him come to school to pick up something. He came in and was very happy to see the Christmas gifts and said "I really couldn't make it without your help. Merry Christmas." He truly appreciates the help.
Family number two is a single mom with one 13 year old son of her own and she took on the custody of two of her brothers' children--two girls ages 4 and 5 years. She works full time as a night cleaner at school and part time at Wendy's and still has a hard time making ends meet. She was so very happy to receive help with Christmas. You can consider this a job well done. She said these are the only Christmas gifts that I have so far and probably won't be able to get many more.
Thank you one and all for your generous donations of Christmas spirit and gifts to the families here in Nichols. May all of you have a Merry Christmas and a Healthy New Year.
